What you need
- Your own server with Dokploy or Coolify already running, and access to its dashboard.
- An available hostname for your application, such as inventory.your-domain.com. At your domain provider, create an A record pointing to your server’s IP address.
The templates include Open Inventory, PostgreSQL and persistent storage for your files. Everyday inventory management does not require an AI key.
Need to install the hosting platform first? Dokploy ↗ · Coolify ↗
Choose your hosting platform
Set up with Dokploy
Import a ready-made template. You do not need to download source code or install the database yourself.
Create a service
Open your project in Dokploy and create a Docker Compose service. Name it Open Inventory.
Import the template
Copy the Dokploy template using the button below. Open Advanced → Import in the new service, paste it into the Base64 field and confirm. The template includes a database and file storage and generates the required passwords.
Choose an address and deploy
Enter your own application hostname during import, for example inventory.your-domain.com. Its DNS record must point to your server. Under Domains, check service inventory, port 3000 and HTTPS with Let’s Encrypt. Select Deploy and wait until the service is running.
Sign in for the first time
Open your new HTTPS address. The username is admin@inventory.local. Find the initial password under Environment → BOOTSTRAP_ADMIN_PASSWORD and copy its generated value into the sign-in form.
One last step: finish setting up your account
After your first sign-in, change your password under Settings → Users. Then remove the BOOTSTRAP_ADMIN_PASSWORD and BOOTSTRAP_ADMIN_PASSWORD_ONCE lines from the Compose template. Also remove the generated initial-password value from the hosting environment and deploy again. Your user and new password remain intact.
Keep the database password and AUTH_SECRET unchanged. Then set up backups of the database and upload storage in your hosting platform.
Add your first item
- Open Inventory and create a new item. Start with a name and a location.
- Enter an opening stock balance. Use quantity stock for interchangeable supplies such as screws, and individual units for equipment you want to track separately.
- Upload a photo if useful. Then search for the item to check that you can find it again.
If something gets stuck
The website does not open
Check that DNS points to your server, HTTPS is enabled and the domain routes to the inventory service on port 3000. New DNS records can take time to become available.
The password does not work
For the first login, use admin@inventory.local and the initial password generated by your hosting platform. After changing it, use your new password.
Deployment fails
Open the deployment logs. Wait until PostgreSQL is ready and database migrations finish. Do not delete volumes while troubleshooting: they contain your data.
